Jersey Girl born in Harlem, NYC. Avid WuTang Clan and Red Hot Chili Pepper fan. Have Passport, will Travel. I enjoy Fairy Tales and Scary Movies. I watch the Twilight Zone Marathon every New Years. Me and TV Food Competitions are soulmates.
I fell in love with sake while traveling to Oita Prefecture in Japan and working with Mr. Fuji San. I went from a Hello Kitty airport to working at a traditional Sake Brewery with days starting at 3am. Classic Fish Outta Water Fairy Tale. Getting a first hand knowledge on the rich, ritual based method of creating sake.
I've studied Japanese sake in the US, Germany and across Japan. I've taken the road less traveled and met a handle of characters along my journeys; dining on their greatest hits. I am a student of the world, who gravitates towards interesting, memorable things to do. I am for those who appreciate what most people overlook.
Always be pouring,

April 2026 - I go to events so you spend your time and money wisely.
Lasting Impressions...
The unforgettable King Salmon Crudo with soy ginger and toasted orange from MISHIK. This one made me stop in my tracks. The world stopped. The first bite unexpectedly broke my stride. The ginger paired with the citrus was springtime. I felt transported to the Bahamas. The sweetness of the orange paired very well with the Daiginjo types I tried. Match made in Heaven. I wasn't alone in my thoughts. There was a line for this dish. Bookmark this eatery.
I also was a repeat eater of the "fried?" Broccoli x Tofu Cream x Caviar. The Broccoli definitely had a crunch to it. The variety of textures and tastes served by INSA demanded a second visit. A lil more umami flavor woulda made this my #1 for food pairing with Junmai.
What's a night without dessert? The CHAN-AN TEA HOUSE met me in the IWA sake tasting line with a delicious sake infused Matcha Tiramisu. Creamy, light and it contained sake! Kudos, on meeting people where they were at; in the long lines. I am a big fan of Afternoon Tea and this House will be on my list to visit.
Variety was the theme of the night. Over 400+ self-serve sake tasting stations allowed for a quick and quirky open bar. It was like visiting the Sake aisle of Total Wine/H Mart plain and simple. Joy of Sake was a great way to be out and about on Friday spring evening in NYC. Can we aim to take Sake exponentially further? Sure. There's time for creativity, there's time for experimentation in flavors, presentation, engineering. The question is, why aren't we taking the time to be more creative with Sake?
Sake seems to be experiencing an identity crisis with Wine. Easier for relatability, absolutely. True to the US craft beverage culture, almost. BROOKLYN KURA understood the assignment. Very Engaging setup.
Alas, the food has started to run out...and mama needs to make good use of the 15% flash Uber sale.
